It used to be that children's television presenters toiled away for a few years talking to puppets or hurling themselves off mountains with barely a safety harness, before slowly graduating to Talking Telephone Numbers or Wish You Were Here.
Not these days. Now, if you want to make a prime-time television career, it seems, the way to go is much more straightforward. Step one: remove kit. Step two: do revealing interview with lad's magazine. Step three (optional, but may prove necessary): have picture projected on House of Commons. Step four: agree deal for prime time television series.
